MAKING SCALED DRAWINGS
The front face of a house when viewed from straight on looks like a triangle sitting on top of a rectangle.
1. The length of the rectangle is 3 meters less than twice the width. The rectangle's perimeter measures 39.6 meters. Determine the length and width of the rectangle.
2. The base of the triangular roof sits on the width of the rectangle (NOT the length). The height of the triangle is 80% of the width of the house. What is the height of the triangular roof?
3. If you are to make a scaled drawing of this house with a scale of 5 cm : 4 m, find the length, width and height of the shapes in the drawing.
4. Draw your scaled drawing of the house on a sheet of paper, using the measurements you calculated in step 3. Your drawing should fit on one side of an 8.5 x 11" piece of paper.
