WASTE MANAGEMENT Research Project

The CRHS environment club is looking into how the school handles waste management. Where does our garbage go? The school must choose between two companies to handle our waste management: Incinerator disposes of garbage through the process of incineration, whereas Dump-It disposes of garbage in a landfill.

The environment club has hired you to analyze the processes used by each company and decide which company the school should choose based on factors such as environmental impact, cost, availability, etc.

Your report to the environment club must include:

þ A description of both waste management options: landfill and incineration

þ An analysis of the physical and chemical changes that the garbage will undergo in both processes

þ A decision as to which company (Incinerator or Dump-It) the school should choose to use. Justify your decision with information about its environmental impact, cost, availability, etc.

þ Images that illustrate and enhance the information in your report

þ A listed of sources used (bibliography) including websites of information and images. This list must be formatted according to the method shown in your school agenda.

Your report to the environment club may take any form you wish (poster, pamphlet, website, …) so long as it is detailed and contains all the required elements. All text must be in YOUR OWN WORDS. Do not copy & paste!

You will be marked according to the attached rubric; please hand this sheet in with your completed project.

You will have a period in the computer lab for research and the rest of the project is to be completed as homework.
